Wenco and Cascadia Scientific's Refuel Coach Integration Featured in International Mining

April 21, 2026

International Mining's April 2026 issue features Wenco International Mining Systems' integration with Cascadia Scientific, bringing data-drive refueling intelligence directly into the Wencomine fleet management system (FMS).

What is Refuel Coach?

Cascadia Scientific's Fuel uses physically measured fuel consumption data — not ECM estimates — combined with payload, haul distance, and grade to calculate how many haul cycles a truck has left before it genuinely needs to refuel. That intelligence is delivered into Wencomine as a native Fleet Control alarm through Wenco’s Data Exchange Service, so dispatchers can act on it without leaving the system they already use.

The International Mining feature covers the technical detail and the productivity case in full, including Cascadia’s operational study at a Canadian mine site showing that better fuel data could recover approximately 22 additional productive hours per truck per year — equivalent to roughly CAD $33,000 in annual value per truck.

Why this integration matters for the Wencomine platform?

The Cascadia integration is the latest example of how Wenco’s Data Exchange Service connects specialized third-party technologies into a unified operational picture for the mine. The principle is straightforward: where a partner’s domain expertise delivers higher-quality data than a generalist approach could, the FMS should be able to use that data natively. That’s the function the Data Exchange Service is designed to serve, and refueling intelligence is a particularly clear case. Fuel dispatch has relied on conservative guesswork for years, not because dispatchers lack skill, but because the underlying data hasn’t been trustworthy enough to support tighter decision-making.

Critically, both Wencomine and Cascadia’s solutions are OEM-agnostic. A mine running a mixed fleet can adopt Refuel Coach without being drawn into any single equipment supplier’s technology stack. In a market where fleet management capabilities are increasingly bundled into OEM-aligned ecosystems, that independence is a deliberate design choice — and one Wenco’s customers have consistently told us matters.

What comes next?

The current integration is the first phase. Wenco and Cascadia are working toward a direct API connection between Cascadia's SmartRView cloud platform and Wencomine, and beyond that, toward fuel intensity heat maps across haul road networks: using the granularity of Cascadia's data to flag road segment where consumption spikes, informing targeted maintenance and route optimization.

The heat mapping capability is where the higher resolution of Cascadia's data really comes into its own," says Reid Given, Director of Product Management at Wenco. "The variations are subtle, but they are meaningful. If you can identify a road segment that is costing you fuel across every truck that crosses it, the fix might be as simple as sending a grader. That is a vey different conversation than looking at average fuel consumption across the whole site."
