RICHMOND, BC, CANADA (April 20, 2017) — As spring lands in Greater Vancouver, staff at our head office are ready to get outside and get their blood moving. Next month, we're even doing it for charity.
On May 17, our team of developers, technicians, and other personnel is climbing aboard the Big Bike for the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
The Big Bike is an annual team event in which riders pilot the ultimate tandem bicycle through a 20-minute heart-pumping circuit. Staff from Wenco will cruise through the streets of Steveston — not far from our Richmond, BC, headquarters — to raise money and bring attention to a major health issue across Canada.
The event is a regular fundraiser for the Heart & Stroke Foundation, contributing over $8 million each year for research into heart disease and stroke. Last year, Wenco donated $2,700 to the Foundation.
"It's such a fun event, and a great way to give back to our community," said Semira Dossa, Human Resources Generalist with Wenco and Big Bike team organizer. "With the weather getting better, we all want to get outside again and the Heart & Stroke Foundation is a cause we all believe in."
The Big Bike fits well alongside Wenco's other charity events. Last month, we took part in a Pi Day fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. Volunteers put their pride on the line, raising a total of $420 for the chance to get smooshed in the face with a pie. Our annual Halloween for Hunger drive collects non-perishable food for needy families in BC's Lower Mainland, while our Operation Christmas Child project donates shoeboxes of gifts to underprivileged children.
